sealants

Sealants are a great way to protect baby teeth and permanent teeth from decay. Brighter Maine Smiles uses BPA free sealants on the molars and premolars to protect teeth through the high risk school years. Sealants are applied onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth, the ones with fissures and grooves where the germs like to hide. A toothbrush bristle is too big to clean them out, but the cavity causing germs have no problem hiding there and producing the acid that causes decay. Sealants are a thin resin coating that helps to keep the bacteria out of those grooves.
