Seniors

Lifestyle changes can lead to increased risk for dental diseases and many elders will need assistance with oral hygiene care. Everyone needs to brush 2X a day and have some kind of inter-dental cleaning with floss or a small brush. Arthritis can make using a regular toothbrush difficult and one with a larger handle may help, electric flossers or ones with a long handle can be easier to use. Preventative dental care continues to be important as people age, and at Brighter Maine Smiles we can help create an oral health routine individualized for you.

Dry mouth is a side effect of many medications and of Sjogren ’s syndrome. The loss of protective saliva can cause new cavities, and make talking and eating difficult. There are many products available to help, talk to your hygienist at Brighter Maine Smiles to find something that works for you.
